Job Description

Sassetti is a public accounting firm based in Oak Brook. Our services go beyond simple tax prep — we provide full-service tax, accounting, audit, and advisory services throughout Chicagoland and beyond. We lead the way in our team-oriented, proactive client service approach, incorporating the know-how, resources, and reputation of a large firm while pairing that with the personal, one-on-one attentiveness you only associate with a smaller firm.

We empower each member of our team to be the best version of themselves through our development initiatives and through the culture we embrace at Sassetti. We value the strong, lasting relationships we build with both our clients and our people. This has been the embodiment of our guiding principles since our founding in 1921 — and it continues to lead our journey into the next century of business.

Sassetti is currently seeking an Accounting Manager (Nonprofit Specialist) to join our tax team.

This is a hybrid role, with an expectation of 2–3 days per week working onsite at our Oak Brook office or at client locations, with flexibility to work remotely the remaining days.

Accounting Manager (Nonprofit Specialist) Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting and financial operations for a portfolio of nonprofit clients, including financial reporting, budgeting, grants management, and compliance.
  • Act as an outsourced Controller for multiple nonprofit organizations, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards (FASB ASC 958).
  • Maintain internal controls and financial reporting systems for nonprofit client engagements.
  • Oversee grant and fund accounting processes, including restricted and unrestricted funds tracking and compliance.
  • Collaborate with clients’ executive leadership teams and boards, presenting financial statements and financial analysis as needed.
  • Prepare annual budgets and forecasts in partnership with client leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state nonprofit regulations, including IRS Form 990 preparation support and audit readiness.
  • Research complex accounting and compliance issues and provide practical, strategic solutions for nonprofit clients.
  • Participate in firm’s practice development efforts through networking, nonprofit community involvement, and referral relationships.
  • Manage and mentor a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance, training, and performance management.

Qualifications:

  • Five or more years of nonprofit accounting and financial management experience, ideally in a controller or senior accounting role.
  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting required.
  • Extensive knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards, grant management, and financial reporting regulations.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and FASB ASC 958 reporting requirements for nonprofit organizations.
  • Experience preparing financial statements, budgets, and grant compliance reports.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop and Online; experience with other nonprofit financial software a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple clients and projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
  • Leadership and mentoring experience, with a collaborative management style.

What We Offer:

Sassetti provides a competitive salary plus incentives and bonuses, and a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, and disability insurance, and a retirement plan. In addition, we offer exciting opportunities for professional growth, a better work/life balance with generous PTO, flexible schedules, hybrid work options, primary caregiver leave assistance, CPA licensing reimbursement, team-based activities, and a professional, fun, friendly, supportive, and collaborative office environment.

Sassetti is an equal opportunity employer and complies with applicable federal, state, and local laws regarding recruitment and hiring. All qualified applicants are considered for employment without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other category protected by applicable federal, state, or local laws.

Because our team members are trusted to handle sensitive information, we require all candidates who receive and accept employment offers to complete a background check before being hired.
