Pay $152,527.00 - $183,500.00 / year

Job Description

The United States Department of Justice, Antitrust Division, is seeking experienced first-chair and second-chair trial lawyers to lead high-profile antitrust and competition cases, including challenges to anticompetitive mergers and business conduct, such as monopolization matters. Successful candidates will have significant substantive and leadership responsibilities and will be involved in antitrust matters of national importance.

Duties

Senior Litigation Counsel will be responsible for litigating the Division's merger and non-merger matters, which may include:

  • Handling complex civil litigation cases related to antitrust laws
  • Leading and managing trial teams
  • Drafting legal briefs and presenting oral arguments

Requirements and Qualifications

Candidates should have:

  • At least seven years of complex litigation and trial experience (more than 15 years preferred), with a focus on civil litigation
  • Trial team leadership experience, preferably as first-chair or second-chair
  • Strong brief-writing and oral advocacy skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to lead and collaborate effectively within teams
  • Strong legal writing, editing, and analytical skills

Previous antitrust experience is valuable but not mandatory. To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be U.S. citizens
  • Possess a J.D. or equivalent degree and be an active, in-good-standing member of the bar in any U.S. jurisdiction
  • Have at least four years of post-J.D. legal experience for GS-15 level eligibility
  • Have experience in investigating federal civil or criminal antitrust violations, or general federal litigation, including criminal and civil cases
  • Demonstrate excellent writing, analytical, and interpersonal skills
